Answering THE question of our generation ... Why should I be For Life?

We invite you to devote with us! Each week, the Y4 We invite you to devote with us! Each week, the Y4Life Team has devotions together, and we want YOU to join us! This week, we are reading Psalm 133 and Matthew 20. Drop a comment below with anything that sticks out to you from either passage or from the footnotes of your Bible. On the second slide, you will find a prayer that you can use to close your time in devotion before you go about the rest of your day.
Alleluia Christ is risen! Alleluia comes from a He Alleluia Christ is risen! Alleluia comes from a Hebrew word that means “Praise the Lord!” This is a word of adoration, joy, and hope. We express these sentiments on Easter because we have life through Christ because of His resurrection. We no longer fear death; instead, we anticipate the day when we will see our Savior face to face!
Through the cross, Christ has taken all of our sin Through the cross, Christ has taken all of our sin, pain, burdens, and loss onto Himself. He has made our pain His own so that He may one day raise our frail bodies from the dead and give us eternal life.
The theory of Evolution teaches that human life wa The theory of Evolution teaches that human life was an accident formed through a long process of natural selection. One of the natural consequences of this belief is a denial of the sanctity of life and a devaluing of human existence. Life becomes disposable. But the Bible tells us that God created and cares for every human life. In the Garden He created male and female in His image. He gave life to their bodies and souls, sustaining both with the bounty He gave them in paradise. God still creates us today; He forms each one of us in our mother’s wombs, preparing us for faith in Him and service to our neighbors. He also upholds the life of every person through farmers, doctors, families, and more. Most importantly, God created us to be in relationship with Him and calls us to faith by His Spirit. In Him all human life has value now and to eternity.
We are unable to reconcile with God on our own. Si We are unable to reconcile with God on our own. Sin corrupts every part of our bodies, minds, nature, and our world. Only God’s own Son, Jesus Christ, could atone for the sins of the whole world and give life to all. Jesus’ love is boundless and pours over into our lives, making us into members of His holy body.
"As we remember the resurrection of Christ, we may "As we remember the resurrection of Christ, we may also remember those loved ones who have passed on before us. We may see their empty chair at the dinner table or miss hearing their voice during church. Although Easter Sunday is meant to be a time of joy and celebration, it may be a time of mourning for others." - Elizabeth Crawford

In this week's Holy Week hymn devotion, Elizabeth writes about the duality present in the life of a Christian. While we look forward to the joy and hope of Easter, we also remember that it is a time of mourning and grief. These feelings are real and present, but they will have an end. We are reminded that the hope of the resurrection is real for all who believe in Christ, and that we will be united to Him on the last day.

Together, leaders learned about being Gospel-motivated voices, refined team mission statements, set a vision, and created plans for engaging community and upholding life next school year.

In addition to all of that learning, leaders cooked together, ate together, worshipped and studied God's Word together, and enjoyed time hiking and celebrating the good gifts God gives through Christian community.

Humility is difficult for our sinful nature. Humil Humility is difficult for our sinful nature. Humility requires us to put our neighbor before ourselves, while our nature desires to dominate others. But Christ is the perfect example of humility. He saw us as more valuable than Himself and gave life to all through His death. Through His Spirit we too can uphold the lives of our neighbors with humility.
God did not make our bodies to serve ourselves; in God did not make our bodies to serve ourselves; instead, He created our bodies to serve others. This is demonstrated perfectly in Christ, “who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross” (Philippians 2:6-8). Christ took on human flesh, using His very own body to suffer and die to redeem our bodies and souls. As redeemed Christians, we are also called to use our bodies to serve and uplift others. When we care for someone with a disability, we rejoice that we can care for them. This care may include living with them, taking care of their bodily needs, or helping them learn certain skills. Through this gift of service, we not only uphold and value the life of an individual with disabilities, but we are also blessed by his or her life. God delights in all human life; no matter the age or ability, each life is a gift to the world.
"No matter what life circumstances we may find our "No matter what life circumstances we may find ourselves in, Jesus is always ready willing to receive our broken bodies and troubled minds. Whether struggling with addiction, grief, self-esteem issues, or other sins that we believe could not possibly be forgiven. However, at the foot of the cross we find forgiveness for our sins and the peace of Christ. And because Christ loves us, the foot of the cross comes to us. Each Sunday in the Divine service, the gifts Christ won for us at Calvary are delivered directly to us through Word and Sacrament." - Elizabeth Crawford

Reflecting on the Lenten hymn "Come to Calvary's Holy Mountain," Elizabeth writes this week about the comfort and hope we have in remembering the cross of Christ and His work at Calvary. Read the full devotional post at the link in our bio or by visiting y4life.org/come-to-calvarys-holy-mountain/.

Even as we continue through Lent, a season of repe Even as we continue through Lent, a season of repentance, we still cling to Christ’s Easter promise. Our sin weighs us down, but we have the unshakable hope that Christ will return, give life to our buried bodies, and wipe every tear from our eyes!
Utilitarianism is the philosophical belief that an Utilitarianism is the philosophical belief that an action is considered “right” if the result of that action brings happiness to the most people in society. Someone with a disability might use a utilitarian point of view to justify ending his life because he is no longer “useful” to society. Taking his life through assisted suicide makes him less of a burden to his loved ones. This line of thinking is a consequence of our broken world, one that is plagued with the idea that human beings are meant for productivity rather than love. God offers an alternative philosophy, “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39).God made us to love our neighbors, not because of their use to us, but as fellow human beings made in the image of God and redeemed by Christ. When we look at our neighbor, we shouldn’t place him on a scale of usefulness; rather, we should see Christ in him. Christ who covers us with His own righteousness, making us valuable before God the Father.
